Comments: "I bought this car in 1988 for $25. I drove it from Fl. to NC and while stationed at Fort Bragg, NC in 1990, the car was left for seven months while I was in Desert Storm. When I came home, I went and bought a new car, and a friend from Kentucky wanted to use the engine and tranny for his pick up. He took the car and stored it at a friends house in the country side, and the car was last seen there in NC in the Spring Lake area or a small town to the northeast of Fort Bragg. He never used the engine, so the car may still be in the friend's yard. The car had wood siding which was very faded and had a white fender on the front right side. There were multiple surf stickers on the rear of the car, and a large sticker that said "Natural Art." There would have been a FORT BRAGG army sticker on the front windshield. I would love to fix that thing up if it is still around. If it's in your yard, just send me an email. Thank you for looking."

Comments: "Help find history on my '68 Corvette. It may have been a stolen vehicle at one time. It was built the week of Christmas 1967. The trim tag code is E26, date completed December 26, 1967. It is VIN 194678S407601. It’s a white top convertible and #7601 for 1968 (5683 through 7922 were built in December 1967.) The color is paint code 988, Cordovan Maroon, with trim code standard, black vinyl interior. The 427/390 HP engine has T0105 IL 18S41087 on the block pad (block casting 3916321). This was not the original engine, but came from a Corvette built in January 1968 (0105=January 5th to be exact). I’d really like to know more about how this happened, and who was the owner then. The automatic transmission is stamped with 18S407601, a VIN matching number. It has the original (stamped 1AW) 3.08 H.D. Posi-traction rear axle. Interestingly, the heads are #3964291 Hi-Perf GM6T L270 and E770, which are 1970 454/470 HP heads (per Vette Vues Fact Book.) Plus, the intake manifold is #3963569, also 1970 454/470 HP (750 Holley carb.) What else was done to upgrade the engine, and who was the owner then? I bought it in September 1999 from James V. and Donna Hilburn in Shawnee, Kansas. The mileage was 27,382 (could be 127,382, but the original door panels, interior, etc. look in very good condition). He had purchased it in February 1999 from CnV Corvettes in Scottsdale, Arizona. There is no VIN on the windshield pillar post. The state of Kansas put a new VIN tag on the driver’s side door jamb for James. What happened to the original VIN tag? The whole underside of the car is relatively rust free and in very nice shape, so I don’t think the windshield frame had to be replaced because of rust. There has been some repair work to the left front, so there appears to have been some minor (?) damage at some point. What happened and how serious was the damage, and who was the owner then? Can anyone provide me with any details on the history of my 'Vette? Where was it purchased? Where did it spend its life? Is it possible that anyone might have any original paper work on my 'Vette? Did you or a friend of yours own my 'Vette? Any ideas on where else to search?

Comments: "This car was originally sold at BowMac in downtown Vancouver, BC Canada, I was the third owner of this car. The original color was Cordovan Brown with a tan interior. It was repainted dark green in aproximately 1965. Last time I saw the car was in 1972 and it still had the the 327 engine, bored .030", FI pistons, 1.94 double hump head, solid lifter 340HP Duntov solid lifter cam, 350HP aluminum intake and 600cfm Holley, finned aluminum valve covers. The 4-spd. shifter was a Hurst Competetion Plus. Original style wheels and spinner hubcaps where still on the car. I have contacted the person I sold the car to but no luck - he doesn't even remmember it. I do not have the VIN number but I do have the last known license plate (#HBA589) and know it was registered in British Columbia, Canada. Comments: "This was a car my dad bought when I was 14-years-old. I restored it myself and drove it for over 11 years in Vancouver, Wash., before selling it to buy my first home. I sold it while living in Kennewick, Wash., to a fellow I think was named Bob Graham. I believe he lived in Coeur d'Alene, ID. The car had a T400 automatic transmission at the time, and the trunk was not yet finished (was cutout to accomodate the bigger tires). Leaf springs were moved in-board. There is a tell-tale marking on the car; if you push on the headliner while sitting in the driver seat, you will feel a cutout in the felt glued to the roof steel that are the letters "S" and "M". Also, the car was an original 6-cylinder so it did not have the V8 scripts on the hood and trunk lid.

The VIN number began with "C56," not "VC56" as it was a 6-cylinder. Also, the manufacturing plant was Oakland, Calif., so the digit after the "56" is the letter "O" not zero. I will add the remaining numbers later. My hope is to find the car for my son as he is getting to be of that age. I will offer a $1,000 finders fee to anyone who helps me locate it and I am successful in making a purchase. Thanks!

Comments: "My parents bought this car in May 1955 and sold it to 16-year-old Chuck Keller in 1964 for $175. I wish I could have talked them into saving it for my brother and I but we were only six years old at the time and had no good place to store it anyway. According to Chuck, it had less than 50,000 miles on it when he got it. He kept it stock and well maintained for the three years he had it (even bought new Firestone wide whitewalls - $40 a piece! - when the tires needed replacing). In 1967 he sold the car to Ray Legasse, an older gentleman, who bought it for his wife. Ray worked at Portland Copper and Tankworks and lived on Running Hill Road in South Portland or Scarborough. If this car survived into the 70's with the original powertrain intact, hopefully someone with foresight grabbed it. If it was restored or repainted in the '70s, it could have very well been painted a more popular color combination such as red/white with a new interior to match. If the cowl tag wasn't changed it would still have #604 for the paint number and #526 for the trim number. In 1986 I had a friend check to see if it was still registered in Maine and it wasn't but the VIN on the old registration I have says VG55B instead of the correct VC55B that I had my friend look up. My brother and I would love to know if the car survived. Neither one of us can afford it right now as we're both raising families but it's my parents' 50th wedding anniversary next June and finding out that this car still exists would be a special surprise!"
